Stop witchcraft, UPND told
By SIMON MUNTEMBA UPND should stop condoning witchcraft among its members because it is against the principles of Christianity, opposition political party leaders have said.
Zambia Republican Party
(ZRP) president Wright Musoma and Third Liberation Movement (TLM) leader Enock Tonga in separate interviews condemned UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema over witchcraft talk and urged the party to stop condoning witchcraft among its members.
They said it was wrong and unacceptable for Mr Hichilema to be seen to be condoning witchcraft amongst his members in a Christian nation.
The duo were commenting on Mr Hichilema’ s recent revelation that some of his female members had crossed into the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to seek witchcraft powers to secure his release from prison.
While in Kitwe, Mr Hichilema revealed that some of his members were crossing into neighbouring DRC to secure his release from Mukobeko Maximum Correctional facility where he and five others were incarcerated for over 100 days on treason charges.
Mr Tonga said it was unacceptable and wrong for a person like Mr Hichilema who aspires to be a republican President to be seen to be condoning witchcraft amongst his members.
He appealed to the UPND leadership to stop condoning what he termed as promoting “black magic” in a Christian country.
“It unacceptable and totally wrong for Hakainde Hichilema to be condoning witchcraft amongst his members in a Christian nation. He should stop henceforth. Those are fruits of a leader who does not trust in God.
“And no single Zambian should trust and vote for such a person because we don’t serve the Devil but God who hates witchcraft.
“Zambians should scrutinise those who seek to lead this country and ensure that those associated with witchcraft practices should never be allowed to be Presidents of Zambia because they will surrender the nation to the Devil,” Mr Tonga said.
He said praising members who were involved in witchcraft were fruits of the leader who does not trust in God.
“HH is on record praising his members for crossing the border into Congo to look for charms to secure his release and he is also on record stopping his members from attending the nation day of prayers, so without beating about the bush, we can conclude that he does not believe in God,” he said.
And Mr Tonga said he believed the charms could have been passed onto Mr Hichilema while he was in incarceration, by his confidants.
Meanwhile, ZRP president Wright Musoma said it was disappointing to note that a person who aspires to be a Head of state could take pride in associating himself with people practicing witchcraft.
“It’s really bad that HH is condoning witchcraft amongst his members. It’s regrettable and I urge Zambians not to trust him with the Presidency of this country because promoting witchcraft is against the principles of Christianity,” he said.
