DESPERATE OPPOSITION LEADERS TOLD OFF

- By CHITE MTONGA

IRRELEVANT squabbles and finger pointing have penetrated the Zambian political scene because some opposition political parties have become too desperate, says Evangelical Youth Alliance president Reverend Moses Lungu.

Rev. Lungu said some parties had no other reason of existing in the opposition than fighting for the Republican Presidency.

He said the current crop of opposition leaders was not inspiring to the younger generation.

He said that opposition party leaders were only bent on discrediting the ruling party even in unnecessary circumstances just as a way to usurp power by any means possible.

Rev. Lungu told the Daily Nation in an interview, that youths were currently not inspired to serve Zambians due to the negativity with which politics has recently been associated with.

“Politicians are indebted to the younger generation to show them that politics is meant for service, and politicians are supposed to serve the Zambian people. It should not always be about trying to force out a president who is legitimately elected so you can take his place, this shows that some people are only interested in power and not to serve the people of Zambia,” he said.

Rev Lungu said politics was not meant for people who had selfish motives but to provide a selfless service to the country.

He said Zambia was a Christian nation and politicians should uphold morality and integrity in performing their role in the country.

Rev Lungu said opposition party leaders should give President Edgar Lungu a chance to finish his term and avoid unnecessarily distressing him because he was carrying a huge responsibility of running the country.

He said that opposition political parties are supposed to encourage development in the country and work with the government of the day.

Rev Lungu said that youths were facing so many challenges in the country which opposition parties could help to solve.

“I feel it is hypocrisy for some opposition political party leaders to concentrate on their personal agendas yet youths are facing so many challenges and all their doing is just condemning the President and raising unnecessary concerns, ” he said.
