Mkushi sex party case goes to PS

- BY CHITE MTONGA

THE Teachers from Mkushi high school who were allegedly involved in sexual activities with female pupils will go through a fair disciplinary hearing despite what the media reported, Zambia National Union of Teachers (ZNUT) secretary general Newman Buabala has said.

Speaking to the Daily Nation in an interview Mr Bubala said all teachers despite the gravity of the offence they are alleged to have committed had a right to be heard by a fair disciplinary committee.

He said that it was part of the conditions of service for teachers to go through a fair hearing before any disciplinary action can be taken.

“It is important to follow procedure no matter the case, so the issue is still being handled. The head teacher wrote to the said teachers and they had to exculpate themselves to a disciplinary committee at the school over the allegations, and the matter went through to the District, the Province.

“And as we speak right now the matter is being handled by the PSs office and that is where a recommendation on the best action to be taken against the teachers will come from, but finally the Teaching service commission will make the last decision, ”Mr Bubala said.

He said the Union after learning about the matter had representation in the disciplinary meetings that were held.

Mr Bubala clarified that the Union could not decide as to what course of action should be taken against the teachers as that was the role of the Ministry of General Education(MOGE) and the Teaching Service Commission (TSC).

He said teachers who were reported to have forged results countrywide would also go through the same process as stipulated in their conditions of service.

“We are glad that these teachers who are alleged to have fake results will be given a chance to explain themselves and present their evidence on the matter, because not all of them might be guilty and not all might be innocent, so there is need for teachers to present their facts and defend the accusations ,”Mr Bubala said.
