Mpande scoops two awards
…Scoops song and album of the year award at Maanu radio Southern Province musical awards
Mwas the top honoree at the Choma Maanu radio Southern Province musical awards, sponsored by former minister of Higher Education, Michael Kaingu last Saturday in Choma.
Mpande, a renowned Southern Province artiste won in two categories, album of the year and song of the year awards.
His hit song, ‘Mbichana Mbichana’ which has been rocking the airwaves, was voted the best song of the year for the province.
The Tonga music legend’s latest 12 track album, ‘Kobaleleka’, to be launched very soon in Lusaka, scooped the album of the year award.
Mpande, born Emmanuel Mpande is well known for his hit songs ‘Nchelele Chelele’ and ‘Ikapaale’.
His album Nchelele spawned the hits such as Kayuuni Mitengwe, Chachisa, Nchelele and Ikapaale and a lot more songs strongly condemning tribalism in the country.
“I won in two categories, song of the year and album of the year. Album of the year was ‘Kobaleleka’ then song of the year was ‘Mbichana Mbichana’. I want to take this opportunity to thank Dr Micheal Kaingu for coming up with this initiative which as artists I feel has helped with exposure,” said elate Mpande.
Mpande said that he hoped to see more improvements to the event next year especially, the participation of more local artistes.
“I really wish my wife was here to witness this and I believe she would have been a very happy person for she always encouraged me to move forward. I dedicate these award to my children Maimbo, Luyando and Lushomo,” he said.
The artiste thanked all the people, fans and friends who took time to vote and participate in the event, as he promised a future full of entertainment and many more awards.
