Luwingu filling station construction nears completion
RESIDENTS in Luwingu are anxious to have the first filling station in the district completed.
Celebrations are planned to mark the completion of the only filling station in Luwingu under Lubansenshi constituency in Katopola ward.
Speaking to the Daily Nation in an interview, Katopola ward councillor Rodrick Mulenga said that he was happy with the government project that is now remaining with 10 percent construction works to be completed.
"I am confident that in the next one month the works will be completed because all we are remaining with is the installation of pumps which have already been procured and there is already security lights to show that the works are 90 percent done," he said.
Mr Mulenga has commended the government for looking into the plight of Luwingu residents and motorists who had to cover about 140 km to access the nearest filling station in Kasama. Meanwhile, Luwingu district commissioner Patrick Chanda said that he is impressed at the pace at which the filling station was being constructed.
Mr Chanda said the district has faced a lot of challenges because of lack of a filling station and this has led to mushrooming of illegal fuel vending.
"There is slow economic activities in Luwingu because there is no filling station and people procure fuel from Kasama and Mansa if not from illegal vendors,” he said.
