AN ambitious K404 million budget meant to spur development and effective service delivery, has been approved by the Lusaka City Council (LCC).
Mayor Wilson Kalumba, said yesterday the approved 2018/2020 budget would enable the council to deliver quality service such as street lighting, solid waste management, construction and maintenance of drainages in the city.
Speaking during the approval of the K404m budget for Lusaka City Council, Mr Kalumba said the budget would tackle many issues that the local authority was facing like control and regulation of supply and sale of foodstuffs and liquor.
Mr Kalumba said the budget which was prepared in consultations with the public through ward councillors and ward development committees, will address many issues such as women and youth activities, social delivery as well as decentralisation policy in all the 33 wards.
He said about 40 percent of revenue would be channeled towards the provisions of service delivery and human resource.
Mr Kalumba thanked all councillors and stakeholders that participated in the budget consultation process in all the wards.
“Service delivery we are talking about is solid waste management, road maintenance, provision of electricity and street lighting among all other things that the council needs to be addressing. I am happy that the budget was done in a participatory process therefore I call upon the residents to support this budget,” said Mr Kalumba.
