- By JACK MAPAPAYI

THE labour movement in North Western Province has pledged unconditional support to the PF Government in line with its guidelines to rally behind the Government of the day.

Zambia Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) provincial coordinator Mr Rodgers Manjomba said the unions were key stakeholders in society.

He echoed the Head of State’s sentiments that civil servants and workers including party officials were the same coin with different faces.

“In offering our support, we call upon you as a party to treat workers and their leaders fairly so that we promote a healthy and cordial relationship in the province, “Mr Manjomba said.

The labour leader was speaking during the consultative meeting between the labour movement and the new Patriotic Front provincial executive committee held at the provincial administration.

And PF Provincial Chairperson Jackson Kungo pledged to always engage the Unions at every level within the Province because they are key stakeholders in its development.

He said as enshrined in PF manifesto, government has made strides in improving the conditions of service for Zambian workers through the amendment of the employment Act No 15 of 2015, thereby effectively banning the practice of casualization.

“In this view, two reviews of the minimum wage were undertaken in 2011 in order to promote the welfare of workers,” Mr Kungo said.

The Provincial chairman promised the union leaders representing government workers that never again will they hear that cadres had closed their offices in the province.
