Prioritise land policy - UPPZ

- By SANDRA MACHIMA

THE land policy should be a priority for any politician vying for public office to ensure Zambians benefit from their birth right, United, Prosperous and Peaceful Zambia (UPPZ) leader Charles Chanda has said.

Mr Chanda said his party was gaining momentum based on its continued land empowerment programme that ensures all Zambians have access to land.

He said so far, more than three provinces had since benefitted from the same programme, adding that all the provinces would be reached as soon as possible.

Mr Chanda noted that land had become scarce to common Zambians, hence the reason the project was targeting the most vulnerable in society.

He said it was for that reason individuals vying for public office must ensure the land policy was a priority for the benefit of the people. He blamed the easy access to land by foreigners on weak policies of the country, noting Zambians found it difficult to acquire land affordably.

Mr Chanda said that Zambians were entitled to have land which was their heritage, saying people must be given preference when embarking on developmental projects for their own benefit, noting such initiatives would reduce poverty if harnessed well.

Mr Chanda said it was sad that Zambians were displaced from their prime land because foreigners had enough money to buy it, and in the process making land beyond the reach of ordinary Zambians.
