Cops rake in over K52,000 from fines

By JACKSON MAPAPAYI POLICE in North Western Province have raked in K52, 315 from various fines during the festive season between December 23 2017 and January 1 this year.

Meanwhile, police dealt with 177 various road traffic offences across the province

In a statement made available to the Daily Nation, North Western commission­er of police Auxensio Daka said during the period in question, police mounted various crime check points and road traffic patrols to ensure that people celebrate the festive period in peace.

He noted that some of the strategies implemente­d included township foot and motorised patrols and monitoring of notorious drinking places.

He said during the festive period, police recorded 177 various traffic offences of which only one case was fatal, while 4 left people with serious injuries.

Mr Daka said the province recorded four cases of interest, namely: murder, attempted rape, defilement and escaping from lawful custody.

In the case of murder, the police chief said the incident occurred between December 23 and 24 at Kisasa Township in Kalumbila district. In the murder case, a 29-year -old man was killed by unknown people.

"And the attempted rape occurred on January 1 this year around 02:00 hours at St Dorothy clinic in Mushindamo district where a Davison Kyolwe of the same area attempted to have carnal knowledge with a 32-year-old female teacher," he said.
