- By CHIKUMBI KATEBE

By VIOLET TEMBO DISTRICT health management teams in Ndola, should create desks for screening persons coming into the province from Lusaka to ensure that no cholera outbreak is reported Copperbelt Minister, Bowman Lusambo has directed.

The provincial minister directed officers responsible for health in the province to step up surveillance and preparedness to prevent cholera from spreading from prone areas.

Speaking during a breakfast meeting hosted for the clergy in Ndola yesterday, Mr. Lusambo also challenged the Church to work with the local authority to ensure that Copperbelt remained cholera free. “I want to encourage officers in the Ministry of Health and the local authority to deploy inspectors in strategic locations such as bus stops and airports since Copperbelt is yet to record an incidence, aside from the only case of cholera imported from Lusaka through a female that had come to visit,” he said.

He said it was important to beef up screening measures among those in transit especially from Lusaka.

Meanwhile, Ndola City Council public relations manager Tilyenji Mwanza announced that the council would this year divert 40 percent of resources generated on its own, towards service provision to communities.

Ms. Mwanza said the local authority would channel part of the resources to complement the Ward Development Fund.

She said a total of K31,308 259 would be used for service provision in the city.

“The council has dedicated a bank account where five percent of its locally generated funds will be deposited, beginning 2nd January, 2018.The Council is also appealing to all stakeholders to come on board and support the Council to realise its vision for 2018, by paying their obligations to the council on time,” she said. THE opposition must learn to appreciate positive development and commend government on the timely delivery of farming inputs via the recently introduced e-voucher in Lufwanyama district on the Copperbelt.

Patriotic Front information and publicity secretary, Henry Chilombo said most farmers who submitted their documentation for the farming inputs using evoucher system for 2017/2018 farming season had already received their seed and fertiliser.

He said the farmers in Lufwanyama had all accessed their inputs through the e-voucher system which had proved beneficial to the local community.

He appealed to stakeholders to embrace progressive undertakings as way of supporting growth for the benefit of the people instead of always criticising the government.

“If you come to Lufwanyama, farmers have accessed their inputs through the e-voucher system.

“We would like to remind the opposition in Lufwanyama to acknowledge what the PF government is doing in uplifting the living standard of our farmers,” he said.

There have been complaints by farmers about the e-voucher system that their cards had remained without credit for them access inputs from registered merchandisers.
