Report graft to ACC - PF

…there are no sacred cows, says Mumbi Phiri

- By SIMON MUNTEMBA

THE Patriotic Front (PF) has advised the public and whistle blowers to report any suspected act of corruption to police or the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) for prosecution as the party will not shield anyone, deputy secretary general, Mumbi Phiri has said.

Ms Phiri has also asked those with evidence to ensure that relevant authorities are availed with evidence so that culprits would be successfully prosecuted.

And Ms Phiri has also made a clarion call to councils and the entire political leadership to sit up and ensure that cholera outbreaks was curbed.

She said contrary to assertions in some sections of society, the ruling party does not and will not condone any form of corruption hence the need for whistle blowers to feel free to report any form of corruption with law enforcement agencies.

She said the PF will cooporate with important institutions like ACC because it is opposed to any form of corruption.

“In our fight against corruption as Patriotic Front, Zambians can be assured that there are no sacred cows because we understand the weight of responsibility that comes with our people-given mandate to govern.

“In this regard, we want to invite all members of the public with information and other whistle blowers to tender in any evidence of any corruption with the Anti-Corruption Commission,” Ms Phiri said.

She encouraged whistle blowers to report any such corrupt occurrences to responsible institutions that have the mandate to investigate and prosecute.

This is contained in a statement issued in Lusaka yesterday by PF media director Sunday Chanda.

She reiterated that Zambians must have faith in their own institutions, adding that ACC was established to deal with any form of corruption.

Meanwhile, Ms Phiri said there was need for concerted efforts to curb the outbreak of cholera.

She said the PF looks ahead to a more united nation, improved service delivery and more fulfilled promises in 2018 free of diseases.

“At this point, it is important to observe that the outbreak of cholera demands all of us as stakeholders, including all our citizens, to pause and ask what we are doing to contributing to promoting hygiene in our compounds and cities.

“We have neighbouring countries like Rwanda that have made it as part of their national culture to continuously clean their surroundings. 53 years after Independence, Zambia must not wait for a wake-up call in the name of a cholera epidemic to keep our cities clean,” she said.

Ms Phiri said echoing the remarks by President Edgar Lungu, her party was making a clarion call to councils and the entire political leadership to sit up and ensure that the country do not have a recurrence of cholera outbreaks.

And Mrs Phiri reaffirmed the PF’s commitment to ensure the promises of its 2016-2021 election manifesto were implemented without compromise, the seventh national development plan goals and objectives were realized and of course guided by the Country’s blue-print, the Vision 2030.

To realize this dream, she said, the PF has a social contract with the Zambian people through which we seek not to leave any Citizen behind.

She pointed out that the ruling party has continued to demonstrate through the various development it has taken to different parts of the Country without segregating between its strongholds and those that might not be.
