ACC NABS SOLWEZI ACCOUNTANT

By PRINCE CHIBAWAH THE Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has arrested an accountant in Solwezi for alleged fraudulent false accounting and theft involving over K 2.4 million.

Geophrey Mulenga Chanda, 34, of house no. 8822, in Miketi area in Solwezi was arrested and charged with 21 counts of fraudulent false accounting contrary to Section 326 of the Penal Code, Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

ACC Public Relations Manag- er, Timothy Moono, confirmed the developmen­t in a statement issued to the Daily Nation yesterday. “Details in this matter are that on unknown dates but between 1st September 2012 and 30th September 2013 in Lusaka, Chanda, being Trainee Credit Manager at Zambia Breweries Plc, with intent to defraud, falsified client accounts in the Zambia Breweries client account system known as SYSPRO purporting to show that a certain Atheneon Engineerin­g Limited transferre­d various amounts totaling 1,063,687.02 to Kanongolo General Dealers and Santa-Flo General Dealers when in fact not.”

Mr Moono said Mr Chanda had also been charged with 69 counts of theft by servant contrary to Laws of Zambia.

“Details are that on unknown dates but between 1st August 2012 and 30th November 2013 in Lusaka, Chanda, being Trainee Credit Manager at Zambia Breweries Plc, stole a total sum of 1,435,800.00 from Zambian Breweries Plc, which came into his possession on account of being employed by Zambian Breweries Plc,” said Mr Moono.

Mr Chanda had since been released on bond and would appear in court soon.
