Ndola roads rehab elates MP

- By BENNIE MUNDANDO

THE collaborative efforts of the Ndola City Council, Road Development Agency (RDA) and Zambia National Service (ZNS) in rehabilitating gravel roads in Kaloko Township in Ndola is commendable as most stretches are almost impassable, Bwana Mkubwa Member of Parliament Jonas Chanda has said.

He was speaking when he officially launched the road rehabilitation works in Kaloko Township.

Dr. Chanda paid tribute to the three institutions saying people in the area faced huge challenges especially during the rainy season owing to the poor road network which had characterised the Township for a long time.

He said the collaboration among the three Government entities was in line with President Edgar Lungu’s call for Government ministries and entities to work in an integrated manner rather than in isolation so as to produce efficiency and cut down on costs.

He explained that in fostering the collaborative partnership, he had first approached RDA to help rehabilitate the Kaloko and Chiwala road in Ndeke and that RDA provided the road equipment, Ndola City Council provided the engineering manpower and fuel, while Zambia National Service availed their big grader equipment.

“The gravel roads leading into Kaloko Township have become impassable with big ditches and mud forming. Lack of drainages also results in flooding of people’s houses when it rains. Motor vehicles get damaged. Residents and motorists have suffered & complained for a long time,” Dr Chanda said.

He reassured Kaloko residents that he was lobbying the Ministry of Infrastructure and RDA for the inclusion of two gravel roads in the township under the C-400 Road Project so that they could be tarred.

Meanwhile, Dr Chanda has challenged big corporate partners and the business community in Ndola to double their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts and emulate government entities in helping the suffering communities instead of just focusing on profit-making.
