Brothels promote sexual immorality

-

Dear Editor,

In recent past, the country has witnessed mushrooming of brothels in residential areas. There is hardly a compound or township in which you wouldn’t find brothels.

The Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary defines a brothel as a house where people pay to have sex with prostitutes. On the other hand, a prostitute is a person who has sex for money.

People indulge in illicit sex mostly due to availability of these brothels in the residential areas. Both the old and the young alike indulge in illicit sex.

Due to escalation of this immoral activity, arising mostly from alcohol abuse. Some people have turned their houses into brothels. The local authority seem not to be doing enough to curb the illegal activities in these brothels.

On this score, I implore the local authority to start inspecting these brothels or sex dens which are operating illegally. Mushrooming of the brothels promotes illicit sex. Ultimately, this leads to high incidences of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) including the deadly HIV and AIDS. This is because some of the people who patronise these brothels are those who are under the influence of alcohol.

What is even mind boggling is that some girls are being lured into sexual acts by sugar daddies. This is not good as a matter of fact.

In my considered view, I feel the local authority and the law enforcers should work together by inspecting the brothels in our residential areas to bring sanity. The owners of these brothels should be apprehended because they operate illegally.
