Socialist Party dangerous-clergyman

- By PRINCE CHIBAWAH

THE Socialist Party is a big threat to national security because its ideology is anchored on militancy, Reverend Bernard Manda Chiwele has warned.

In an interview yesterday, Rev Chiwele, who is Rainbow Party Luapula chairman, said the Socialist Party must be taken seriously as it had potential to undermine Zambia’s peace and security.

“The people of Zambia must be careful with this new political party whose agenda is being constantly questioned by many peace loving Zambians.”

An organisation which resorts to use military means to actualise its objectives is not different from a terrorist group.” He said reports indicating that the Socialist Party was recruiting and training some military personnel to champion its agenda must not be taken lightly.

“There is no smoke without fire. The Socialist Party is here with an unusual agenda. It is a party which is being spearheaded by cowards who have refused to apply normal politics because they have nothing to offer Zambians,” he explained.

Rev Chiwele also said the frontrunners of the Socialist Party ditched the Rainbow Party due to their thirst for power.

“I always say don’t use shortcuts if you want to succeed in politics. This is what I mean, they now want to use the back door to take over government, of course with the help of unpatriotic individuals who are being trained in various disciplines,” said Rev Chiwele.

The Socialist Party was registered on October 17, 2017 and is recruiting and training some military personnel to champion its agenda, according to documents seen by the Daily Nation.

The Ministry of Defence has instituted investigations to establish the soldiers who are working with the party.

Ministry of Defence permanent secretary, Stardy Mwale strongly warned that government would fire all those who would be found wanting.
