- By KALOBWE BWALYA AND LINDA SOKO TEMBO

CHIEFS in Luapula Province have pledged unwavering support to President Lungu’s government. .

The chiefs include Senior Chief Kalima Nkonde of Lunga district, Chief Mabumba and Chief Mibenge of the Ushi people of Mansa district.

The traditional leaders said this when Luapula members of Parliament paid a courtesy call on them yesterday.

The chiefs said disgruntled politicians had no room in their chiefdoms because they were a disgrace.

“We are behind the able leadership of President Lungu who has honoured the people of Luapula by putting them in government positions.

“We want development not anarchy and we will not support people bringing confusion in our chiefdoms,” said senior chief Kalima Nkonde.

Chief Mabumba said only a blind person could not see the unprecedented social and economic development that the PF government had initiated in the few years it had been in power.

And Chief Mibenge urged the MPs to be united and help develop the province.

The traditional leader said development moved fast where there was unity and harmony.

He said his chiefdom stood ready to work with the government of the day.

“Do not allow squabbles in the party to derail your development agenda,” said chief Mibenge.

The MPs later held a public rally at Samfya Basic School as they concluded their tour of the province.

And Copperbelt Members of Parliament have resolved to support President Lungu as Patriotic Front (PF) party Presidential candidate for 2021 elections.

In a statement issued to the Daily Nation, Bwana Mkubwa Member of Parliament Jonas Chanda said the Copperbelt MPs pledged to support President Lungu because he was a man of vision and their preferred candidate.

Dr. Chanda explained that during the meeting that was held on February 1, the MPs also called for unity among all PF party structures on the Copperbelt province to ensure that they remained a PF stronghold as it had been for the past five elections since 2006.

He said the MPs pledged to support the party and organise public rallies across various districts and also lobby for development from government so as to fulfil the electoral promises made to residents of the Copperbelt province in all constituencies. The lawmaker also disclosed that the Copperbelt MPs had resolved to mobilise PF party membership by working with the Party President, Vice President Inonge Wina, Secretary General Davies Mwila, the Central Committee, and Copperbelt Provincial, District, Constituency, Ward and Branch officials.
