Japan gives Zambia 3 grants
JAPAN has given Zambia K2, 357,169 in three grant assistance for the grassroots and human security projects aimed at promoting economic diversification and industrialization in Africa, Ambassador of Japan to the republic of Zambia, Mr Hidenobu Sobashima disclosed in Lusaka yesterday.
The ambassador said, his government attaches importance to human resources development to promote economic diversification and industrialization in Africa to create a quality Africa.
“The Government of Japan has given a total of K2, 357,169 worth of grant to three institutions, we decided to respond to their proposals positively because their projects are promoting economic diversification and industrialization in Zambia,” he said.
The Ambassador said that his government had granted St. Joseph College of Lusaka west US$88,888, K880, 000 and civic forum on housing and Habitat in Zambia US$86,030, K821, 940 and Mpunde Secondary school US$68,575, K655, 229.
And St. Joseph College Mission Superior Sister, Nirmala Savarimuthu said that the grant received was for the construction of a learning centre at the college for more than 150 students.
“The learning centre is not only to going benefit the students at the colleges but others from the local schools and the people in the local community,” she said.
And speaking at the same function civic forum on housing in Zambia executive director Ms. Grace Mtonga said that the youth development Centre that was going to be built, with the grant will empower youths from Kabwata constituency and the surrounding area.
“The youth development centre will empower the youths of Kabwata and the surrounding areas with tertiary education in various faculties, as there was only one at the moment, Chilenge Trades which had a limited space for enrolment,” she said
