ZESCO FC has new general secretary

-

By MICHAEL MIYOBA ZESCO Limited has appointed Zambia Electrometer managing director Richard Mulenga as Zesco United FC general secretary following the dismissal of Justin Mumba who has reverted to his substantive positions within ZESCO Limited, prior to his re-assignment to the club.

Zesco Limited corporate affairs senior manager Patrick Mwila confirmed the development in a statement issued to Daily Nation Sports in Lusaka.

Mwila said that the decision to make administrative changes at the club was meant to enhance the performance of the Ndola -based super league outfit.

Mwila said that former club general secretary Justin Mumba and former treasurer Joel Nkhata remained full time employees of ZESCO Limited and have not been fired as was insinuated in some media reports.

“Mumba and Nkhata have been recalled from the club assignments and have since been re-deployed to their substantive positions that they held within ZESCO Limited,

“Mumba worked as a Way- leave Officer in Ndola, while Nkhata was finance manager under Kariba North Bank Extension before their re-assignment to ZESCO United FC,

“We would therefore like to emphasize that these officers will remain full time employees of ZESCO Limited and have not been fired as was insinuated in some media reports,” Mwila said.

Meanwhile ZESCO Limited management has challenged Mulenga to improve the wellbeing of the club ranked 15th in Africa by the Confederations of African Football (CAF).

“The club board would like to see improvements in the operations, in line with among others, corporate governance guidelines, “It is therefore expected that, the ongoing re-organization will lead to improvements in the day-to-day running of the club, which should lead to more success both on and off the pitch,” Mwila said.

Zambia Electrometer, is a ZESCO Ltd joint venture which manufactured electricity meters. Mulenga has also worked for ZESCO Limited for over 20 years before his new assignment.
