CONJOINED TWINS: DISPARAGING UPND CADRE SLAMMED
UNITED Kingdom-based UPND cadre Larry Mweetwa has disparaged the successful separation of conjoined twins describing the procedure as “as simple as performing circumcision.”
Mr Mweetwa who took to his Facebook page wondered why the entire nation was happy about the operation saying it was a very simple to separate conjoined twins.
But Dr Kachinga Sichizya from the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) said the nation must celebrate the surgeons and everyone who was involved in the successful operation.
Dr Sichizya said it was unfortunate that Mr Mweetwa chose to undermine the procedure and used a derogatory word which he said was diatribe against the medical practitioners and left many doctors shocked.
“I have read and re-read his posting and still don’t seem to understand how this got into his otherwise reasonably researched writing, especially that the media and the general public in general have given credit to everyone who participated in this operation,” he said.
He said the Zambian society generally gave respect to doctors and that to get into medical school anywhere in the world was challenging.
Dr Sichizya said prior to the surgery, weekly inter-disciplinary meetings involved diverse experts who planned for the operation.
He said the Ministry of Health gave significant support and commended them for their work and expertise.
