Prioritize human development, govt urged
By SIMON MUNTEMBA
THERE is need for government to prioritise the vulnerable members of society, if Zambia is to develop the human development index, the Movement for National Transformation (MNT) founding president Daniel Shimunza has said.
Mr Shimunza suggested that to prioritize the human development index, government should focus on an inclusive contextualised democratic development of the first world nation agenda which include prioritising the vulnerable members of its society.
Mr Shimunza said his movement was concerned that the current government's agenda was not prioritising the vulnerable members of society.
Mr Shimunza, in a statement yesterday, indicated that development must prioritise human development.
“MNT is concerned that the current government's agenda, is not prioritising the vulnerable members of our society like; Youths, Women, street kids, patients, prisoners, and the aged.
“The condition of helping such people, has only been done for political mileage without a consistent holistic policy direction. Why should we be distributing mealie meal and other basic needs as political dangling to mobilise party programmes as opposition parties, including the ruling party?” he wondered.
Mr Shimunza charged that Zambia was lacking transformative leadership to enhance human value in the development.
The devaluation of human is typical of third world developing nations, he said, adding that Zambian citizens should afford those basic needs without political distribution, in a system of government that is effective and inclusive.
