LCC raze church

LUSAKA City Council (LCC) has demolished a makeshift church in Kamwala South for alleged violation of the Law. The local authority last week demolished Enthiews (God has given) Church for conducting church services in a temporary structure with inadequate sanitary facilities. According to LCC Department of Public Health, the church did not have running water for the toilets; and did not subscribe to waste collection. This was in contravention of the Liquor Licensing Act number 20 of 2011 of the Laws of Zambia. LCC has since dragged Enthiews Church to the Fast Track Court and the case comes up this morning. But Enthiews Church Pastor Prophetess Agnes Mumba, at whose house the structure was erected, said a neighbour allegedly incited LCC to demolish the makeshift church because he did not want prayers. In an interview following the demolition, Prophetess Mumba said the neighbour had allegedly been harassing her over the prayers which he claimed made him fail to sleep and yet the church conducted all its gatherings in the day. “When I started the church he did not want prayers here on grounds that he was failing to sleep and yet we do not have overnight prayers and we don’t pray throughout the day. He said he failed to sleep at night because he did not have peace. “Whenever we had prayers he would call the council police but some of them turned against him after they saw that we were just praying,” she said. Prophetess Mumba said last Tuesday she was shocked when LCC police officers went to her home and told her that they were going to demolish the makeshift church because she was allegedly a Satanist. And Patriotic Front senior member Boniface Botha said it was a pity that senior citizens had started distracting churches.
