Freedom fighters want own grave site

-

By NATION REPORTER THE Zambia United National Freedom Fighters Association (ZUFFA) has called on government to consider constructing burial sites for them in recognition and memory of their courage and patriotism.

Mr Waluku said such recognition was important because liberation struggle endured by the freedom fighters had borne fruits that the country has continued to enjoy.

He also suggested that there would be need to put up writeups at the memorial burial sites to document contribution of the freedom fighters.

Mr Maluku said the country has a rich history of the many personalities that took part in the process of decolonisation.

“We are urging all the district councils in Zambia to reserve sites for freedom fighters where they should be buried. The burial sites that would be identified will serve as memorial sites and also avenue through which to access information on the struggle of independence of the country,” Mr.Waluku noted.

According to Mr Waluku, personalities and their detailed experiences in the liberation struggle have not been well documented, thus creating an information gap to the new generations.

He stated that once the burial sites were put up, they would save as reference points for the public to appreciate as they celebrate Independence.
