KAMBWILI IN UTH

-

where he was denied police bond but later in the day he was reported to have fallen ill, after which he was admitted to Care for Business Hospital.

According to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) media team, immediately their consultant was discharged from hospital yesterday, police pursued and escorted him to Woodlands police station and upon arrival, some officers fired live ammunition to disperse his supporters, much to the annoyance of his family members who accused the police of plotting to kill him. Later, Kambwili, who appeared frail, was driven to Lusaka Magistrates’ Court complex where his lawyers attempted to apply for bail but the court could not hear them in the absence of ACC officers who were not at court as the matter will only come up tomorrow.

Kambwili was supposed to appear in court on Monday but failed to show up due to his illness and the case was adjourned to this Thursday before Magistrate Mwaka Mikalile.

He was later taken back to Woodlands police station, as he was still in police’s hands after being denied police bond last Friday. When contacted, police spokesperson Esther Mwata Katongo said the police had no hand in the case and were just facilitating Kambwili’s movements due to security reasons.

“All the confirmations, anything to do with Honourable Kambwili should be referred to the Anti-Corruption Commission and as police, being not our case, we cannot make any decision because the owners of the case do not have detention facilities.

“They are using our facility and that does not make it to be our case. Whatever decision they have to make is theirs,” Ms. Katongo said.
