Turkey denies human rights violation
TURKISH government has maintained that there is no violation of human rights in that country. An official from Turkish embassy in Lusaka told Daily Nation yesterday that Turkey had maintained its determination to protect human rights in the country. The official was commenting on a report published by United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights on the state of emergency measures in Turkey following the recent coup attempt. The report suggested that there were currently human rights violations in Turkey. But the Turkish official said the report was meaningless as it completely ignored the severe and multiple terrorist threats faced by Turkey. “Particularly the effects on the protection of human rights of the July 15 coup attempt that targeted the survival of our country and the democratic life of our nation,” said the official. The Turkish government accused the High Commissioner who signed the report of lacking objectivity and impartiality on the issues concerning the country. “The last text that he published contains unfounded allegations matching up perfectly with the propaganda efforts of terrorist organisations. This is an unacceptable situation. This person, who is the head of an international body bearing unquestionable global importance, unfortunately, relegated the said UN body under his administration into a position of a collaborator of terrorist organisation. We condemn this situation.” The official said the High Commissioner had failed to accept invitations to visit Turkey. “He even refrained from submitting any request to visit Turkey for preparing this last text and he has prepared it in cooperation with terror affiliated circles. His claim of having no access to Turkey is baseless… Such a text, prepared under these conditions, containing distorted, biased and false information is unacceptable for Turkey. This text constitutes a danger for the whole of the human rights system due to the non-objective assessment it contains,” said the official.
