Address NHA salary saga immediately
Dear Editor, THE employees of National Housing Authority (NHA) have not been paid their one year salaries backdated to
March 2017.
These employees have exhausted all channels to press for their outstanding emoluments.
In economics, I learnt that labour is one of the factors of production which is rewarded by wages.
When a person is employed, there is a contractual obligation between the two parties involved. These are the employee and the employer.
The employee has to be paid for the labour service rendered and failure to do so is tantamount to breach of the employment contract as it is the case at NHA.
The workers’ continued pressing for their outstanding salaries has prompted the company management to put them on forced leave.
I feel this is not the panacea or rather the solution to resolving the salary saga at the company.
If the truth be told; it is this one: these employees are entitled to claim for their outstanding salaries.
Moreover, the affected employees have some financial obligations to meet. These are children's school fees, house rentals, debts to settle among others.
On this score, I earnestly appeal to President Edgar Lungu Mr. ‘‘Walk the Talk’’ to intervene and expeditiously find lasting solution to the NHA salary saga.
These workers have suffered enough. It is high time employees got their outstanding salaries.
