Nation without culture dead - Mubukwanu
A NATION and people without culture is as good as dead, says North Western Province Minister, Nathaniel Mubukwanu
Speaking during the fundraising dinner for the Kuomboka traditional ceremony at Kansanshi Hotel in Solwezi over the weekend, Mr Mubukwanu said cultural identity was a foundation of the unity in diversity that the country has enjoyed over the years.
He said it was important to continue passing the cultural values, practices and traditions to the younger generation.
‘’Let us be proud of who we are no matter your tribe because basically that’s what makes us, that’s who we are,’’ Mr Mubukwanu said.
He said there was need to uphold cultural values collectively as it will guarantee the unity of the country.
He said the Patriotic Front (PF) government has made significant strides in promoting the arts and culture in the country.
‘’Prominent among them is the creation of the Ministry of Chiefs and Traditional Affairs for cultural heritage preservation and strengthening of traditional governance systems,’’ he said.
He said in 2015 government enacted the Protection of Traditional Knowledge, Genetic Resources and the Expression of Folklore Bill.
‘’And it is for this reason that we always value the support of the private sector, the corporate world, individuals and many well-wishers to on board to support traditional ceremonies such as this one,’’ he said.
