NUPPEZ gives kudos to Lungu

- By NATION REPORTER

NATIONAL Union of Public and Private Educators of Zambia (NUPPEZ) in North Western Province has commended President Edgar Lungu for directing Labour Minister Joyce Simukoko to expedite the process of revising the minimum wages in the country.

NUPPEZ Provincial Chairperson, Davison Kandela, told the Daily Nation in an interview yesterday that the directive by the head of state was welcome as there was urgent need to make adjustments in order to improve the conditions of service for workers.

He said NUPPEZ will always work with the government of the day to improve the living conditions of its members.

‘’The directive by the head of state to expedite the process of revising the minimum wages is very much welcome especially that the current minimum wage has outlived,’’ Mr Kandela said.

He said the salaries for most workers have deteriorated due to many factors which include the cost of living among others.

‘’And we hope that all the employers will embrace this directive so that we can have workers who are happy and motivated because this will now result into high production in the country,’’ he said.

And Mr Kandela has further commended government for coming up with a health insurance policy saying it will carter for a wide spectrum of citizens.

He however called on government to be engaging all stakeholders at an initial stage when coming up with policies.

‘’It is our humble appeal to government that when these policies are being formulated, at least let all stakeholders be involved from inception,’’ he advised.
