East drugs warehouse handover nears
By NATION REPORTER THE newly constructed Medical Stores Limited warehouse in Eastern Provincewould soon be handed to the government, hub manager Gladys Ngambi has said.
Ms Ngambi said she was helping the contractor to make final touches to ensure changes conformed to the design in line with the signed contract before leav- ing site.
She said the World Bank (WB) sponsored project was constructed at a tune of US$ 1.7million storage of drugs in the province.
“This is a massive project and lot of money has been pumped into this and we are demanding that the contractor delivers a quality project that matches the amount of monies involved.
“We are allowing them a few more weeks to tie loose ends,” She said.
Ms Ng’ambi explained that the projected started in August last year, and it was expected to be completed by Mach this year.
“We are concluding and the contractor should be ready to hand over the project to the government before the end of next month,” she stated.
The drug bank would be storing medicine for all the government health institutions in the province.
In a separate interview, Eastern province permanent secretary Chanda Kasolo said, “We are excited with the changes. As a pro-poor government it is our earnest assurance to the people that we will continue investing in critical areas of our economy.
“It is our desire that medical needs be provided and allow our people more time engaging in productive activities.”
The government has been working on materialising the Seventh National Development Plan (7NDP).
