Nyimba has potential for cement- Minister

EASTERN Province will soon have a cement processing plant in Nyimba, provincial minister Makebi Zulu has announced.

Mr Zulu said he was confident that after the provincial expo, which will be held soon, investors would come forth in the cement manufacturing industry.

The provincial minister said in an interview that Nyimba has the potential for cement manufacturing because of the vast limestone presence in the area.

"We are optimistic that the expo that the Eastern Province will soon have, is going to attract investment in cement processing. "As you all know, Nyimba has the best limestone in the country and we will have the potential to supply cement within the country and beyond," he said.

He explained that the Eastern Province's strategic location would help export the commodity to Malawi and Mozambique.

Mr Zulu said the idea behind the expo was to enhance the economic status of the province.

He explained that the potential in trade into the two countries had led to the creation of industrial yards which would enhance value addition.

"We are happy that we have an industrial yard coming up in the area and once this is done we will be able to supply processed agriculture products to the two countries, "he said.
