I was not bought- Katongo
Katongo, a former National Democratic Congress (NDC) official has described allegations that he was paid about K500, 000 by the ruling Patriotic Front (PF) to ditch his former party to rejoin the ruling party as mere speculations.
Mr Katongo told the Daily Nation that he could not even waste time responding to such speculations. “I will not respond to speculations, period” he said.
Last Sunday, Mr Katongo who withdrew from contesting the Chilanga by- elections on the NDC ticket led over 100 former NDC cadres to join PF.
He cited poor leadership, bad ideologies and a lack of clear vision
for his defection.
Earlier, Mr Katongo had rubbished social media asserting that he was bought or threatened to ditch the NDC and rejoin PF during a press briefing.
“I want to put it categorically clear that I have not been bought and at no time was I threatened by anyone from PF,” he said.
Mr Katongo explained that after consultations with his supporters, he was advised to rejoin PF, and has since announced to rally behind the candidature of PF candidate, Maria Langa.
He and other former NDC members were on Sunday received by PF assistant campaign manager for the Chilanga parliamentary by-elections, Geoffrey Chumbwe.
