... feels neglected and betrayed by the adoption of Charmaine
UPND is a very deceitful party that has abandoned my husband, family and subsequently adopting the most unlikely candidate for the Chilanga by-election. This was said by Maricoh, wife of incarcerated former Chilanga Member of Parliament, Keith Mukata, said in Lusaka yesterday as she broke her silence over the unfolding controversy in the UPND ranks.
Ms Mukata has endorsed the PF candidate, Ms Maria Langa in the coming Chilanga by-election and accused UPND of abandoning her husband and family since the court case started and her husband’s subsequent conviction.
Ms Mukata said that the adoption of Charmaine Musonda by UPND was unexpected as it was wrong for a woman to demean another woman, especially one who was married and had children.
She told the Daily Nation in an exclusive interview yesterday after a press briefing that the adoption of Ms Musonda, the ex-girlfriend of her husband was a big surprise to her family.
Ms Mukata tearfully said that UPND was deceitful, as it had deserted them in their time of need.
She said that life had been hectic for her and her three children, and she had hoped that UPND would have at least replaced her husband with a woman who was family oriented.
“We have not received any support from UPND, not even a single day. So far from the UPND not even a visit, no remorse at all. I don’t think it is right for a woman to demean another woman, especially one with children,” Ms Mukata said.
Earlier, Ms Mukata told journalists that she had forgiven her husband and that she still loved him and missed him so much.
“We are stronger than ever, I love my husband and I have forgiven him for everything. It’s been hectic, I miss him so much, it’s been one year now and I pray that one day God is going to reunite me with my husband,” she said.
She also said that her decision to endorse Ms Langa had the blessing of her husband and the entire family. Meanwhile, Ms Langa advised Ms Mukata to stay strong for the sake of the children and continue believing that God would vindicate her husband.
She pledged to carry on from where Mr Mukata had left off if given an opportunity to serve in Chilanga.
And PF campaign manager in the Chilanga byelection, Jean Kapata described Mr Mukata as a man of his word.
She said that even when UPND MPs walked out of the National Assembly during President Edgar Lungu’s state of the nation address to Parliament, Mr Mukata remained seated.
Mr Mukata was sentenced to death for shooting his security guard at his law firm in Rhodes Park, Namakau Kwenda, after being charged jointly with his girlfriend and now UPND candidate Charmaine Musonda.
And Ms Mukata also said that the family of the slain guard was always in her prayers.
