Auditor General to be probed
GOVERNMENT will probe alleged irregularities reported at the Office of the Auditor General, Minister of Information and chief Government spokesperson, Dora Siliya has revealed.
There have been concerns from stakeholders including some officials from MMD, Rainbow Party and Zambia Republican Party (ZRP) over the alleged irregularities such as abuse of public funds and lack of transparency at the Office of the Auditor General.
It has also been reported that one of the opposition parties had connived with some officials serving at the institution to produce fake and malicious audit reports purporting that government was abusing public resources when in fact not.
The officers are believed to have strong political connections with the United Party for National Development (UPND) and have been accused of championing the agenda of the opposition by producing fake audit reports to demean government and President Edgar Lungu.
But in a statement to the Daily Nation yesterday, Ms Siliya, who is also acting Minister of Home Affairs said government would investigate the matter. She stated that the people of Zambia would be informed about the findings.
Last week, ZRP president Wright Musoma announced that his party would not give up the fight to have the Office of the Auditor General audited or investigated.
“There is no way that only one institution should be left unchecked. How special are they? What justification is there to spend without being checked? If there are irregularities surely they should explain where the money is going,” said Mr Musoma.
