Culture takes back seat in politics

-

Dear Editor

In our African culture, you do not talk about replacing someone before they have been buried. But politics and the law are different. 2ur /usaka Mayor is set to be replace in 90 days time because that is what the law stipulates.

The family is mourning but the politicians are already fighting to grab the hot seat. It is almost like politicians are all made from a different mould and mind set. All is fair in war and love. It appears there are a lot of people in love with the mayor’s position. Makes one wonder.

The viciousness with which some =ambians have taken politics is frightening. It is sad to read about the PF official killed in 6iavonga. +onestly, when did Zambians become so savage as to kill over politics. To stab a man probably with the intention to kill or maim. Where is the country heading to. +ow can politics cause one to spill another’s blood.

7aking a life is a serious matter and our police officers should ensure that culprits are brought to book. =ambia needs to go back to civilized politics where brothers belong to different parties but still eat together. This animosity is alien to our culture. Political leaders should take matters in their hands and tell their people to refrain from violence. It does not pay. At the end of the day, we are all Zambians with one country which must be safeguarded.
