NDC overrated, says UPND

-

CHISHIMBA Kambwili is overrated and UPND does not need an alliance with the NDC to win the 2021 election, says United Party for National development (UPND) Secretary General, Stephen Katuka.

And NDC consultant Chishimba Kambwilli said the NDC was a strong party and those who underrated it would be shocked in 2021. He further refuted claims that he was overrating himself by claiming that he would scoop the 2021 election without forming an alliance with UPND.

Mr Kambwilli said the NDC was only 6 months old in politics but was spreading like wild fire.

He told Daily Nation that those calling the NDC a ‘katemba’ party would be surprized as the party was a factor and was headed for victory in 2021.

‘Watch this space, the NDC is a baby born with teeth, you will be shocked come 2021, you should know that ‘Imbwilli ni Imbwilli’ that’s all I can say, watch this space, Mr Kambwilli said.

He said the party had not yet been launched but it was very popular countrywide with a huge following.

‘‘When we finally launch the party, I can tell you that it will not be launched in an auditorium no, six months we are this big, what do you expect in 2021,’’he said.

But Mr Katuka said Mr Kambwilli and Mr Musenge were overrating themselves by thinking that they would win the 2021 election.

Mr Katuka said the UPND was already a prominent party as 96 percent of the votes during the last election were shared between the PF and UPND.

He said it was not easy for a political party that had been on the political scene for a short period to win a Presidential election.

Mr Katuka said politicians needed to understand that to win a Presidential election one needed to gain the relevant experience.

He expalained that even when the UPND lost its President Anderson Mazoka the party’s performance was poor in the 2008 general election as the number of MPs reduced from 43 to 21.

Mr Katuka said it was not the party’s position that Mr Kambwilli and Mr Kalaba should join the UPND but individual party members could not be stopped from speculating.

He said anyone who was willing to work with the UPND was free to do so, but the party was not very keen on making alliances with other political parties.

“Yes we can work with those who we feel share the same values, but we are not very keen because people come with conditions. For example we worked with Miles Sampa in the last election and he started giving us conditions that his people should stand as MP in some parts of the country,” Mr Katuka said.
