KITWE RESIDENTS SALUTE POLICE OVER PATROLS

By NATION REPORTER RESIDENTS in various townships in Kitwe have urged police to continue with patrols which have helped bring sanity to the city.

Police in Kitwe have intensifie­d patrols following increased incidents of notorious gangs which had been brutalisin­g residents.

Officers were picking up youths who were not properly dressed and had a funny hair cuts.

5esidents interviewe­d in 0ulenga, Ndeke and 0iseshi townships told the Daily Nation that following intensifie­d police patrols, youths were now dressing in a proper manner with decent hair cuts for fear of being picked up by police officers carrying out patrols.

7hey urged officers to continue combing residentia­l areas in order to wipe out all gangs.

$ forty three year old 0ulenga township resident, -osephine 0ambwe, said police patrols had brought sanity unlike previously when drunk youths with funny hair cuts would go on rampage beating and insulting people regardless of their age.

,n 0iseshi township, a group of youths with funny haircuts were on 6aturday sent scampering after police arrived in the area in the on going operation to get rid of notorious gangs.

7wenty nine year old Pau- line 6akala of 0iseshi township said youths who were previously in the habit of drinking beer recklessly and insulting people had sobered up for fear of being picked up by the police officers.

7he police are picking up youths with funny hair cuts because they suspect them of being part of the notorious gangs terrorisin­g people, 0s 6akala said.

5esidents of Ndeke are equally happy with the patrols to curb lawlessnes­s being perpetrate­d by unruly youths.

6tephen &hilombo commended the police for the commendabl­e Mob and urged them to continue.

6o far, the police have been doing a good Mob in their opera- tions and , must commend them. 7hey brought sanity in the townships. 5esidents should not harbour criminals and we appeal to the police to continue, he said.
