DEGREES FOR CHURCH LEADERS, NOT TRUE – MINISTER

…it’s false and malicious

- By NATION REPORTER

RELIGIOUS Affairs and National Guidance Minister Godfridah Sumaili has rubbished rumours suggesting that her Ministry wants to compel church leaders to possess a minimum qualification of a university degree.

Reverend Sumaili described the rumours as malicious and works of enemies.

She told the Daily Nation in an interview yesterday that the rumours were meant to cause confusion among the Church and paint a bad picture of Government.

She said she never at any time made any proposals regarding the qualifications for church leaders.

“Those are just rumours and they are false, it’s not even the first time am hearing them, they have been there.

I want to put on record that i have never at any point made any proposals or pronouncements regarding qualifications for church leaders.

“The rumours are just works of the enemies trying to bring confusion among churches and de-campaign the government in power by making it look like it does not care,” Rev Sumaili.

She has since urged the church to ignore the rumours and get in touch with her ministry if they had any queries.

“I would like to urge the Church not to even waste time to pay attention, we have channels of communicating with the Church is something comes up and when we make discussions, all stakeholders including the Church is involved. If the Church has any queries regarding anything to with religious affairs and guidance, let the contact us.

“There is there a regulatory body in place which will regulate how the Churches will be run and the Church is part of that body, so if decision are made, then they have to be collective. All stakeholders must agree,” she said.
