WE’LL SPEND ANOTHER K127M ON ROAD EXPANSION-MINISTER
By NATION REPORTER WE will spend another K127 million on the expansion of the Independence Avenue in Solwezi, North western province minister, Nathaniel Mubukwanu has disclosed
Speaking after he inspected the road works on Solwezi main bridge on Sunday, Mr Mubukwanu said the expansion works will see Independence Avenue turned into a dual carriageway from town centre to Kansanshi mine junction in Mitec area.
He said due to the works that will be taking place on the road, the Kandundu Saviye road will be used as a by-pass road.
"An extra K127 million has been released for the continuous expansion of the dual carriageway up to Kansanshi mine junction and also the bridge.
Now, this implies that there will be inconvenience in terms of traffic flow. In this regard, we have identified the Kandundu Saviye road as an alternative road," he said.
He said it was government's expectation that the road was finished by July and handed back to government.
He said government wants to widen the road for easy and smooth traffic flow.
He disclosed that the initial plan by government was to construct the dual carriageway up to the bridge of which it has been extended to Mitec.
"What I also want to confirm is that a second bridge is being constructed," he said.
He appealed to motorists to be patient with government as works were going on.
