Church should speak against society ills - Lusambo
THE Church should speak out against wrongs going on in society and take its rightful position to solidify national beliefs, principles and values, says Lusaka Province Minister Bowman Lusambo.
Mr. Lusambo said the church should take advantage of the Ministry of National Guidance and Religious Affairs as a platform to propel the gospel.
He prodded the church to familiarise itself with both the Patriotic Front (PF) manifesto as it was a pro-poor document and the national values, principles and ethics.
The minister said this in Chilanga yesterday, at Munda Wanga Gardens during an inter denomination gathering where he highlighted the importance of National Values, Principles and Ethics in a speech read on his behalf by District Commissioner, Edith Muwana.
‘‘As a church you should speak against ills of society, don’t be quite but take up your rightful position by disseminating Zambia’s values, principles and ethics,’’ he said. Mr. Lusambo said the church should feel proud that President Edgar Lungu had taken the declaration of Zambia as a Christian nation by late President Fredrick Chiluba a step further by introducing a ministry.
And Chilanga Pastors Fellowship chairperson, Osbourne Katope said the church desired peaceful elections in the by-election on Tuesday.
The clergyman said the church desired to speak out but that it was reluctant as it would be perceived to be political. He said the church was praying for peaceful, free and fair elections as Chilanga residents were generally peaceful and that it was cadres being ferried elsewhere fanning confusion.
Rufunsa District Commissioner, Judith Chama said the dress code even in churches especially among young women was worrisome as it was in bad taste.
