LUNGU EXCITES SOUTH FARMERS
By NATION REPORTER NEWS of President Lungu’s intervention in the maize floor price has excited farmers in Southern Province because they laboured to grow the country’s staple grain in anticipation of favourable prices.
Southern Province Patriotic Front information and publicity secretary Trymore Mwenda said the President’s timely intervention in the floor price was evidence that he meant well for the growth of the agriculture sector.
“The decision to call for an upward adjustment to the announced K65 for a 50kg bag of maize by the President has indeed delighted most farmers in southern Province,” he said.
Mr Mwenda said the PF and President Lungu wanted farmers to benefit from their efforts to produce food to feed the country and to export the surplus to other needy countries.
He reminded critics of Government that the intervention by the President was not the first as there had been similar interventions in the past all premised on securing a win win situation for the hard working farmers most of whom were small scale farmers.
“We have no doubt that the President ‘s intervention will act as a morale booster to farmers to look forward to the coming season with zeal and optimism knowing their interest is safeguarded by the first office in the land,” he said.
