‘Deplorable roads near State House need attention’

- By NATION REPORTER

RESIDENTS of Prospect Hill, an area near State House, have complained over the poor state of some roads. The residents said Kapampe and Ngulube roads in the area that had remained in a deplorable state for over 10 years were embarrassing because many local and foreign dignitaries visited the area. One of the residents who talked to the Daily Nation said it was surprising that the two roads had remained unattended to for over 10 years despite their proximity to State House and Arakan Barracks. He said it was surprising that even after many complaints had been lodged to local authorities and members of Parliament over the state of the two roads, nothing had been done. “We have been talking about these two roads for a very long time, we talked to Guy Scott when he was MP and we have been talking to the area councillor but nothing is being done and we feel it is unfair for us to go further and talk to Mr Chellah the Presidential aide for projects. We know President Lungu is busy and he cares, but the problem is with our representatives on the ground,” the resident said. He said the Road Development Agency (RDA) and other stakeholders must also consider working on the two roads as Government was currently working on most roads in Lusaka. He said it was appreciated that Government had completely changed the face of Lusaka especially in terms of road infrastructure but prime areas such as Prospect Hill should be given priority and not be sidelined because of its proximity to State house. “We know that this issue has not been addressed to the President but he is a busy man so we expect that our councillors work to on these matters and we have contacted them but nothing has been happening,” he said.
