Politician inciting NIPA students?
A ZAMBIAN politician is sponsoring a candidate in the upcoming union elections at National Institute of Public Administration (NIPA) and now students fear that the move will fan lawlessness and chaos at the institution of learning. And 3rd Liberation Movement (3rd LM) leader, Enock Tonga has called for a probe into the matter and ensure that the said politician was brought to book. The named politician even bought cases of beer for the students in an effort to entice them to vote for his preferred candidate in the election. Several students have however expressed concern that political interference in the election would attract lawlessness at the institution. The students fear that the institution of learning that had been peaceful would now become one engulfed by chaos. “We don’t want to be like these other institutions of learning where students are rioting all the time. NIPA is peaceful and we want the situation to remain just like. So we don’t want these politicians who want to bring confusion at our institution,” the irate students lamented. Pictures of the said politician, posing with selected students at his home have also emerged. And Mr Tonga has called for an immediate probe into the matter to ascertain the allegations. He reiterated that disgruntled politicians should not be allowed to bring confusion at institutions of learning. Mr Tonga charged that the named politician should face the full wrath of law if found wanting. “These politicians should not be allowed to bring confusion at institutions of learning. I think authorities should be vigilant enough and ensure that such barbaric behaviour is not tolerated in these institutions. Why would a politician have interest in student’s elections if not to fan lawlessness?” he questioned.
