Now cops want more land for houses

- By NATION REPORTER

THE Zambia Police Service has requested for a piece of land in Mufulira where to construct housing units for officers. This will address the problem of accommodation in the district. Inspector General of police Kakoma Kanganja said the shortage of accommodation was one of the major challenges facing the service. He said it was the reason why he was requesting for some piece of land from the local authority on which to construct housing units for officers. Zambia Police Service National Coordinator, Projects and Maintenance Unit Robert Makwelele said this on behalf of Mr Kanganja in Mufulira. “As a service, we are humbly requesting for more land on which we can construct housing units for police officers,’’ Mr Kanganja said. Mr Kanganja said the need for police presence in more areas was necessary and the police service stood ready to work hand in hand with members of the community in fighting all forms of crime. He appealed to the members of the community in all areas to partner with the police in order to maintain law and order so that together they could promote socialeconomic development. Community policing, he said, was an effective way of crime prevention hence the police would always work with members of the community. Mr Kanganja also said the police service would also continue engaging the corporate world in order to ensure reduced crime or crime free environment altogether.
