ACHINESE trader whose shop was almost looted in Ipusukilo Township in Kitwe has removed his goods from the shop and relocated. After youths attempted to loot the shop last week, the Chinese national only identified as Pepe packed up the goods from the shop and closed it. A Daily Nation journalist who went to the shop, known as China Mart, learnt that two trucks ferried the goods from the shop as it is believed that the trader feared for his life. Last week, police thwarted an attempt by 10 youths to descend on the shop and arrested one of them, who has since been charged with conduct likely cause the breach of peace. Others had fled from the scene. Some security guards at the shop told the Daily Nation at the weekend that the Chinese had decided to close down his business in the area because of insecurity. “After that incident when the gang of boys wanted to loot the shop, the Chinese National has decided to remove all his goods from the shop. “Two Fuso trucks carried the goods, but there are still some few goods which are inside the building. It is like he is closing the shop because the thinks those boys may come back and succeed in looting his shop,’’ said one of the security guards. And President of the Copperbelt Chapter of the Zambia-China Association Wang Xin said the move by a Chinese national to close his shop was a precautionary measure, especially in the face of tension between Zambians and Chinese. Mr Wang, who had gone to Ipusukilo to get the picture of the shop, said there was need to address the tension between Zambians and Chinese in the nation. “He has closed the shop because he thought those who wanted to loot his shop may come back and succeed in looting the shop. He has taken a precaution measure,’’ Mr Wang said. Julius Kamanga, the owner of the shop building, has alerted police when he noticed rampaging youths approaching the shop last week.
