Athletics Development Centre coming
THE Zambia Amateur Athletics Association (ZAAA) and the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) which will see the establishment of the only African Athletics Development Centre (AADC) in Zambia. The center to be established at Olympic Youth Development Centre (OYDC) in Lusaka is set to benefit more than 2 000 athletes from across the African continent. Speaking during the signing ceremony held in Lusaka, CAA chief executive officer, Lamin Phati said the establishment of the centre will contribute to the growth of the athletics sport in Zambia. And CAA technical director, Aziz Daouda expressed delight to work with ZAAA to develop the sport in the country and Africa at large. “We feel that athletics is very important in Zambia and the decision to host the center here is a good opportunity for athletes to develop. The centre cannot be successful without support from different bodies such as the national sports council and the Olympic committee,” Daouda said. ZAAA president Elias Mpondela hailed CAA for considering Zambia as the best destination for the athletics development Centre. And National Olympic Committee (NOCZ) of Zambia president, Alfred Foloko commended ZAAA through its president, Mpondela, for recording a 100 percent of success recorded in 2018.
