TECHNOCRATS should devise the best way of dealing with the weed choking Kafue River because Government has the capacity to remove it once a strategy is found, Lusaka Province Minister Bowman Lusambo said in Kafue yesterday. Mr Lusambo said Kafue River was very important to the nation and dredgers would soon be deployed to remove the weed because there were strategic installations for water supply and electricity generation as well as fishing activities which could be jeopardized by the weed on the river. Mr Lusambo was speaking after assessing the weed on the river with officials from the Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure Development led by Permanent Secretary Charles Mushota, and officials from ZESCO and Lusaka Water and Sewerage Company, among others. Mr Lusambo said the weed was chocking the river and should be removed urgently and urged the technocrats to come up with the best strategy of doing so. President Lungu on Saturday took to task Mr Lusambo and Mr Mushota over the weed engulfing the river.
