Veep assures, AU, EU on gender equaity
VICE President INONGE WINA says Zambia like other African Countries affiliated to the Africa Union is making strides to achieve gender equality. Mrs WINA says Zambia is addressing the issue of gender equality seriously and it will be realized despite it been a tall order. She noted that President Edgar Lungu was championing the end girl child marriages so that the girl child is empowered to contribute to the economic development of the country. Mrs Wina said unlike in the past were women for generations were denied the opportunity to contribute to such development, they would be given opportunities in the current administration. She has also noted that the Women in leadership summit scheduled to be hosted in Zambia next year in March would attract women from across the world in senior positions in government , parliament and the private sector to share best practices and experiences . And Mrs Wina noted that Zambia appreciated the long relations between Zambia and the European Union because they share common values and also developmental projects . Mrs Wina says EU and Zambia share common values such as global supporting peace and also as a partner in the development agenda. She was speaking during bilateral talks with the EU Ambassador to Ethiopia Ranieri Sabatucci. And Mr Sabatucci says the EU supports such initiatives meant to promote gender because it is considered as one of the priorities . He has also disclosed that the EU is coming up with a program called spotlight which will focus on. reducing violence against women and girls . Earlier Ms Wina held a closed door meeting with the Africa Union Commission Chairperson Moussa Faki Mahamat.
