Kabwe School in maths, business teachers ‘SOS’
NAAMBE primary and secondary school of Kabwe Rural is in dire need of mathematics and business teachers in the secondary section.
Head teacher, Charles Mwila said school needed more teachers in the two departments to provide acceptable teaching standards to its pupils.
He made the appeal to the provincial education officer, Jenipher Chishimba Banda during the graduation ceremony of 27 Grade 12 pupils. Mr Mwila commended the government for bringing education closer to the people by upgrading the school to secondary level.
He said before the school which was about 20 kilometres away from Kabwe town was upgraded, it was a challenge to find examination centres for pupils. Mr Mwila said that the pupils who qualified to senior grades had problems accessing school places. He said those that managed had to find houses to rent, the situation left them vulnerable especially the girl children.
“We commend government for bringing education closer to the people unlike those days when pupils used to go walk long distances to seek senior education,” said Mr Mwila.
The school management was advised to write to the district education board secretary (DEBS) office so that its challenge of shortage of teachers in mathematics and business departments could be addressed.
