We Provide checks and balances to PF, UPND boasts

- By NATION REPORTER — Mr. Halwabala

A LOT of things would go wrong in the nation if UPND did not consistently provide checks and balances to the ruling PF Government, the opposition party’s Southern Province deputy spokesperson Neto Halwabala has claimed.

In a statement released to the Daily Nation to mark the party’s 20 years of existence, Mr. Halwabala claimed that UPND had grown and “spread like fire” to all parts of the country since the demise of its founding leader the late Anderson Mazoka.

He claimed that without the UPND in existence, Zambians could have been fearing to exercise their democratic right because of the way the ruling party was governing the nation.

“Without UPND in opposition, Zambia could have been reversed to a one-party state a long time ago,” he claimed.

And Mr. Halwabala claimed that the UPND had remained strong when other political parties within a space of one year had collapsed while others continued existing only on paper.

“We have planted a strong political foundation for opposition political parties to survive. Once in government; we shall provide conducive environment for any opposition political party to freely offer checks and balances as opposed to the Patriotic Front who are always oppressing the opposition,” he said.
