Police to pursue social media abusers
THE appeal by Special Assistant to the President for Press and Public Relations Amos Chanda to arrest people using social media to report falsehoods on President Edgar Lungu, is a wake-up call for us to strengthen our system, Police spokesperson Esther Katongo has said.
Ms Katongo said the directive was a reminder to the service to strengthen its system and stop lawlessness in the country.
Ms Katongo said in an interview yesterday that all those who would be found wanting would face criminal charges.
Ms Katongo said the police would be on alert and ensure that people reporting falsehoods on the Head of State were apprehended.
On Tuesday during a special interview on ZNBC, Mr Chanda directed the law enforcement agencies to arrest people using social media to report falsehoods about President Lungu’s health.
