Daily Nation Newspaper - - FORUM - Dear Editor,

The massive number of unemployed people especially young people in the country is overwhelming. Added to this scenario is the increasing number of some people off-loaded on the streets through retrenchments or redundancies. But at least I see a ray of hope as this would be the opposite following revelations in Parliament, by National Development Planning Minister Alexander Chiteme that more than 39, 000 Zambians will be employed during the data collection for the 2020 census which will take place in August 2020. Accordingly, the 2020 census would involve about 31, 000 enumerators and 8, 000 supervisors among other census staff at different levels.

It’s good that the would be enumerators would use tablets pre-installed with the data capturing application with a set of validation

rules implemented to reduce time of processing and increase the reliability of the collected data.

At least this will improve the quality of data collected and reduce the time-lag between data collection and dissemination of results.

It’s good that government’s policy on job creation is working. ALICE SAKALA Ndola

National Development Planning Minister Alexander Chiteme
